Zexel Torsen Traction Differential, 10 bolt GM.
This is a 28 spline 2 series unit for 7.50"/7.625" rears. It accepts 2.29, 2.41, 2.56, 2.73, 2.93 or 3.08 gears. "Thick" ring gear ring and pinion sets available aftermarket to run 3.23 to 3.73 ratio or better, or you can use a spacer. I believe this is the strongest differential for the GM 7.50/7.625" 10 bolt because there are
NO SPIDER GEARS TO BREAK.
The Zexel Torsen Traction Differential type T-2 (Type 2) is a clutchless limited slip positraction differential that uses four pairs of circumferential helical cut gears (in essence of a planetary set in an automatic transmission) that provide lots of contact surface for greater internal friction and load distribution versus a typical spider gear arrangement in an open rear. I have a customer running a 1983 Z28, all steel except hood and with full street equipment, 355 SBC, TH400 & Nitrous. He runs a 7.50" 10 bolt with Richmond 3.73's, a Zexel Torsen differential and stock GM c-clip 28 spline axles. With numbers of 11.48 ET/120 MPH, 1.54 60' and a weight of perhaps 3600 pounds, he is making about 400 HP. Point is, the GM 7.50/7.625 10 bolt with a Zexel Torsen differential will handle more power than most people realize! Install one and go racing! Consider your bid on this used unit as it sells new from General Motors for $657.58! Call your GM dealer to compare price and application, Group 5.510, P/N 12471372.
