hey i have a 1992 1500 w/ 5.7l v8 i chabged the egr valve today in hopes to help it with emmissions. after i changed it the truck chugs very badly and struggles to run for about 20-30 seconds then smoothes out. it ran perfect ten minutes before then i changed the egr valve now it runs really rough for 30 secs right after its started, it revs up and down struggling to run

 

Try unplugging the vacuum source to the EGR valve. Chances are, the EGR valve you took off was plugged or not working, and now that your EGR valve works properly, you need an EGR control solenoid too. Not to worry, if you unplug the vacuum line from the EGR valve, and unplug the power to the EGR solenoid, there wont be a vacuum leak. If the symptoms improve, replace the EGR vacuum solenoid.

 

Sometimes, after changing out emissions/electrical parts, the computer has to have time to reset. If the battery cable has been unhooked, etc...
Take the truck out (aftr the idle smoothes out) ad drive on interstate for 5 minutes, in city for another ten doing the start and stops. Now take it home, shut it off- let it cool down. Restart and see if that worked.
Sometimes the computer has to reset and recalibrate.
