I'm a new guy on the block
My problem is that my A/C doesn't cool the cabin very well. The A/C seems to be working okay, return line to the compressor gets ice cold. I'm guessing maybe the evaporator may be dirty (clogged with debris) it seems like there should be more air coming from registers. I have been unable to find where the evaporator coil is under the dash. I dropped the bottom portion of the heater/AC box and see the heater coils but could not see the A/C coils. I would like to know before I start pulling stuff apart. I purchased a Haynes manual but it doesn't help. Appreciate any help I can get.

 

Welcome....When you say ice cold, do you mean the line going to the compressor is iced up?....Usually, that is a sign of the refrigerant being low. I think you need to get the system checked to see if it has the right amount in it

When I said "ice cold" I did not mean iced up, just real cold and sweating. I think the A/C is working normal but just not being able to transfer the cold air to the cabin properly. If anyone can furnish a link to somewhere where it would show how to get to the evaporator coils so that I could inspect them. I was just thinking that after almost 20 years perhaps the coils could have built up some dirt or debris on them. Since there is no filter you think maybe??

 

I would suggest digging a little deeper. I wasn't able to find any kind of pictures or diagrams of your HVAC box but they all are basically the same. If you saw your heater core? you were close to your evaporator. Your issue maybe as simple as you damper may not be fully opening from heat to AC

 

Could be the damper although I see movement in the damper control when I move the control ****. Does the water flow thru the heater coils all the time? or is there a valve that shuts the hot water off during the cooling cycle? I appreciate your feedback, I guess I will have to dig deeper into the box. Thanks
