hey guys! I have a 94' model Z71(automatic Trans)

I was driving on the interstate and all of a sudden it slipped out of gear. I moved the shifter into neutrtal and back into drive and it still would not go into gear. I then pulled over and let it cool off for about 5 minutes. I started it and drove for about 1/2 a mile and it did the same thing again. This time I checked my trans fluid level and it was good. Is there any other explanation as to why this would happen other than the transmission going out. I am crossing my fingers that I wont have to replace or rebuild it.

 

Probably burnt up clutch packs and the drum...do you have 1st and 2nd gear if you shift manually?

 

Like DamnYankee saidtry to manually put it into gear and see what happens. If it does nothing a clutch it the culprit. If you have 1 and 3 or any match like that missing one your have prolly ripped the teeth off the gear which is rare but ive seen it happen. Usually if that happens tho your would know automatically. If you can drain the transmission fluid and make sure there are no metal shavings that will be your first sign.
