I'm new to the forum and have searched motor swaps and am wondering if anyone can help me with this I have a 2004 gmc 1500 4x4 with a 4.8l and I have a 1997 gmc 3500 HD with I beam suspension and want to know if it is possible to put the 7.4l into my 2004 truck both are vortec motors the only difference would be the trannys as far as I can see any assistance would be great thanks..FREAK..

 

Anything is possible with enough money and fabrication. I don't know every single thing that will go into your swap if you go through with it,but here is a short list. Wiring harness,transmission,motor mounts, and possibly driveshaft and rear end. Any time that you decide to put a different motor into a vehicle that wasn't designed to accept it, be prepared to fork out some money. If you really want a more powerfull engine in the truck and want to save some money, drop a carburated motor in it and do away with all of the comforts such as power seats and a/c.
