2008 4.8l engine noise
#22
I got my truck back today, and I could not be happier with the job that GM did. They replaced all the lifters and apparently GM Corp. wanted to have the parts in question in hand ASAP. They said they haven't seen many 4.8l with problems and want to see if it was a bad batch or just a fluke. The truck idles smooth as butter, I thought it idled fine before but you could barely feel it ideling. IE: if I had a plastic bag in the truck you could see the bag move slightly with the idle of the engine, now nothing moves and inside the cabin is super quiet. They also replaced my driver side window regulator and rear driver side power door lock actuator. Granted those were on my extended warranty but I walked out of there with a bill for $2700 and didn't have to pay a dime. They also washed and waxed the truck for me, it looks like it rolled out of the showroom floor and drives as if it is a brandnew truck. They told me to replace my oil after 500 miles and to drive it like I stole it.

Congratulations on the successful repair!
My guess is that they got your truck greasy ... that's why it got washed and waxed :P I heard a Crysler technician talking about the same thing yesterday. No complimentary car washes, unless the tech gets the vehicle dirtier than the way it came in; like a greasy hand print on your fender.
Sounds like a wonderful experience. I'm glad GM took care of you!

Well the bad news rears it head again, last night I heard a noise while I had the windows down and next to an overpass wall. What I thought I heard at first was a rock in the tire, but the noise was directly related to changes in RPM not MPH. So I get back to the house and low and behold it's coming from the passenger side of the engine. Took it to a shop that I trust and it's another bad lifter. I have changed my oil before the OLM hits 25% left and I'm thinking I may just have a bad camshaft that is eating my lifters. I now have 107,000 miles on the truck and I'm getting out of the Military next week and have to pull our 6500lb RV, I just hope it can make it till we can get to our next house. This new job that I accepted will give me a company car with gas card so I will have time to tear my heads apart to see what the damage is, as long as the truck can make this upcoming journey. I'm thinking of just doing all new cams, lifters, rockers, intake manifold, and throttle body.
So does anyone think I should run 10W40 or Rislone Engine treatment to help get this truck and trailer to our next stop in this adventure we call life?
