98 Chevy C/K 1500 Electric or Computer Problem ??
I have a 98 Chevy C/K 1500 Z71, 5.6L V8 350, with 95,000 miles. I just changed the alternator and the battery. I had all my gauge lights turn on then turn off, while driving this morning. At the same time the lights came on the RPMs jumped up but the engine did not rev. The volt gauge, on the dash, droped down to 10 and I check the battery with the truck running and the volt reading was 13. Has anyone had this problem? Is it electrical or maybe a computer? Can any one help me?
Thanks
Mark

Check your alternator with the engine running to make sure it’s “crankin out”. If this is fine, unhook your battery negative terminal and leave it for about 5 minutes. Re hook it up and wait for another 5 minutes for the computers to kick on. Turn the ignition to the on position and wait a full 2 minutes for the computers to re-calibrate. Turn the engine on and wait again for the M.A.S. (mass airflow sensor) to calibrate the fuel injectors. If this does not work, I suggest hooking it up to a diagnostics computer.

Thanks radioflyer, I gave it a try last night. In the process of doing this I found a corroded wire on the positive terminal of the battery. I cleaned that up and did what you told me to do and she ran great this morning.
Thanks again
