I just used the jumper wire method and the ac works fine so I'm fairly certain I need a new low pressure switch. My question is , Will the system have to be recharged after changing it?

 

It has a schrader valve in there (like a tire stem) so take it off fast and you should not have to recharge.

Hypothetical here, WHAT IF? I left it jumpered? Would it still cycle on and off like it should or would it be like I straight wired the clutch? I understand that if it developed a leak , the switch wouldn't protect the compressor and would burn it up. but would it cycle?

Yeah that is a temporary thing for sure used ONLY to test the switch or to get the system charging when completely empty. You don't want the compressor running without freon and oil in it. The switches are only around $12.00 so it will be money well spent.

 

It took some looking but I FINALLY found one. The moron in Autozone couldn't even figure out what it was I needed. The guy in Oreilly's knew what I needed but didn't have it. He went on to say he's had the one on his blazer jumpered for the last 2 years. NAPA won the prize, they had it.. 14 bucks

 

Wow I am glad you found one. If I managed one of those stores and one of the employee's said they had theirs jumped for the last 2 years I would can him on the spot. I deal with it here too. They hire high school kids to work there b/c they won't pay enough to have someone with some experience behind the counter. NAPA is the exception, but my NAPA is far from my house. I usually look the stuff up online before I go and write the part numbers down. I hope that hooked you up!

 

Leaving it jumped will constantly run the compressor and this creates more heat in the system. The condensor will run hotter and the air will not cool as much. I have seen this cause busted lines, locked up compressors, even run the engine hotter. So glad you got the new part cause its not worth it to leave it Jerry Rigged.

 

Done the trick, I put the switch on and she kicked right in.. I hooked the gauges up and it was a little low, topped her off and now getting 37 degrees at the vents. That is colder than my NEW Ford Ranger gets.
