Question Adding factory options after factory???

Hey guys,
I have a 05 Silverado work truck, and would like fog lights.

My question is, can i buy the lights, harness and switch from GM and simply plug them into the main harness? (Or splice in) Do they have just a generic harness that they just don't plug certain things for different options?

Would adding an integrated brake controller be the same deal also?

Or am i just talking jibberish?

Id ask my Gm dealer but they got their head's stuck in their a$$

Thanks

You should be able to add them with little issue. It would be helpful if you had a friends truck that had them so you could look at it for reference. I added power windows and door locks to a 99 truck before and the harness I got from the salvage yard plugged right into the distribution center under the dash. That and putting a breaker in the empty spot in the fuse panel and I was in business. It was actually much easier than I thought it would be.

I don't think an intergrated brake controller (factory installed type) would be that easy. I tried to get the dealer to install one on my '07 and they said it couldn't be done. I just had an add on controlled installed and it worked great.

Ok so fog lights don't sound impossible.

I was talking to a friend today, and he said the newer chev's are already pre wired for trailer brakes??

All i have to do is buy a kit, that has a brake controller that plugs into the factory wiring harness and mounts in usual spot. And another on that plugs into the wire harness at the back of the truck and mounts on the hitch??

Does such a thing really be real?

Yeah I think I might have an extra harness laying around too. It plugs right in under the dash and then your 7 pin in the rear will automatically have the right signal for trailer brakes. You also have to put a fuse in the under hood fuse box and of course buy a brake control unit for the brakes to work.

Nothing has to be done in the rear.

On my '07, the wires were under the dash and I believe they had to be spliced to the plug that came with the new brake controller. We also had to connect a wire that was folded back in the wire harness under the hood to the fuse block and install the fuse. The procedure was explained in my owner's manual. Good luck.
