Emission leak

Emission leak
Hello,
I got the check eengine light on. Had it read at a local parts store, it said small emission leak. The salesman told me it may be my gas cap. So I replaced it and drove for about one week. Still on. The truck runs fine, no different than before the light came on. The inspection is up in March and to fix the problem. Has anyone had the same problem? I really don't know where to begin looking.
Thanks,
Tom

The first question that comes to mind is: Did the guy at the parts store reset the light? You said he scanned it but never said he reset it. I would make sure it gets reset. Otherwise it will take a set amount of "key turns" to shut it off if the problem has been resolved.
