Default Fuel Economy?

Well, I'm looking at 1998 Chevy 2500 with the 7.4liter 454 V-8 ext cab shortbox right now and I'm just a little weary about how the fuel economy will compare to my 92 with the 350.

This particular 454 has been completely stripped down and rebuilt, bored .30 over, performance Cam, headers, 3" dual exhaust into flowmaster 40's, Stock 245 85 16 tires, 3:73 gearing, etc. The guy says that he gets 12-14mpgs combining his city driving with his 5th wheel pulling.

Otherwise, it's a rust free New Mexico truck up here in Michigan with 156,000 miles on it. He want's $4500 for it

Thoughts, input, concerns, questions??? Shoot

If you were doing a lot of heavy hauling with both trucks the 454 might actually get you better mileage. I was pulling my boat with a 5.3 truck and then a 6.0 HD truck and finally now with a 454 Suburban. While pulling the 454 gets better mileage. When not hauling obviously the 5.7 will get a little better. I would guess 4-5 MPG better. It's worth it to me being more comfortable with a heavy load behind me. Good luck!

In this rising Oil price and shrinking oil wells, one has to be very careful about the oil spending, 454might give you more mileage, but again you have to careful about driving, i see many people do that and save more fuel even if their truck is not much giving more mileage
