Default Heater hose connector?

thought I had a leaky heater core but it was the PLASTIC HOSE connector leaking. my ? is how do these plastic connectors release from the actual heater core tube? they willrotate aroundeasily. as if they utilize an "o-ring" seal setup. any info will save me some $

BTW it is a late 99 1500 Silverado

thanks

it takes a special release tool...a big parts house may have one

or saw ift off...but be careful not to cut the core
