Default life expectancy 2000 chevy silverado 1500

Hey yall i just have a quick question on how much life expectancy i should have with a 2000 silverado. the low down is i just got to a new base and am looking at a silverado with 150k on it which recently had about 2K worth of work done to it at a certified GM mechanic. New starter, new second cylinder, all fluids replaced, oil changed, new O2 sensors and a few other things all of which are under warranty. This is going to be my main means of transportaion so i dont want to be left stranded. I plan on keeping the truck for a year mabe alittle more. basicaly until i go down range again and have enough for a new ford. Sorry for the long read and thanks for all the help guys.

I see many at the auctions with WELL over 200K. It all boils down to how it was maintained for that 150K. Is it the 4.3, 4.8, or 5.3?

In my opinion and the opinion of many GM techs that I have spoken with the 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0 line of motors are the best that GM has ever put out. That is saying a lot when the old reliable 5.7 was used with such reliability for such a long time. I bought my first 5.3 liter truck back in 2004 and have had one just about ever since. I wouldn't think twice about buying it if it runs and checks out. You may even change your mind about the future Ford purchase. If you have any questions there are many here that know the motors very well. Good luck with your purchase!

well take this into account.

me and my dad had a 1993 chevy truck. Me and him changed the engine oil every 3000 miles flushed the radiator every 2 years and did regular maintenance.

We got that truck to 700,000 miles before the rear main seal on the tranny began to be bad. he didnt feel like fixing it so he sold it and bought another chevy.

to me chevys are amazing and if you know how to take car of a car you can drive it until you get tired of it

You may find that the 4.3 isn't enough engine for the truck... Don't get me wrong, it's a great and reliable motor, but it's more suitable for a S10 or blazer and I think you'll find yourself yearning for more power especially if you haul anything with it. Fuel economy won't be any better (or marginal at best) simply because it will be working much harder than the V8 options

Good luck with your purchase, but personally I would shy away until I found a 5.3. If you plan on selling in a year the 5.3 is much more desirable to potential buyers as well

To be honest, any motor will hold up well if you take care of it. If you treat it right, it will treat you right. Treat it like crap and she will leave you stranded.
