When I bought my '03 I was told that the voice portion of OnStar was actually utilizing analog cell frequencies. Now that analog is going away how does my OnStar still work? And what are the new trucks communicating on? Thanks to anyone who can enlighten me.

 

you should have recieved an upgrade offer from gfm if your system is indeed analog..they were converting units to digital for 15 bucks,plus a years service fee in advance...if you did not get the offer,you may have digital...give me your vin if you want and i'll look it up

you do have analog...your vehicle is listed for an upgrade...its 15 bucks,for which covers some tax...you'll get a new antennae and and vicm (brainbox)..but as stated,you have to buy a years service in advance

i just bought my 03 gmc,
and called to get the onstar
upgrade, because onstar was
not active on 12-31-07
here is the breakdown on price
1.prepay 1 yr.service= 199.00
2.upgrade system = 15.00
3. activation fee = 100.00
total = 314.00 + tax

 

i did just hear the extra 100 bucks was added in 2008...
