Default Exploding Shock

Gosh, it's one thing after another lately. After the arduous task of replacing my '94 Suburban door latches, I decided to install new Monroe Gas Magnum shocks on the front. I already have them on the rear. The ones on the front are old white colored ones I believe the dealer installed. Upon removal of the passenger side I noticed how weak it seemed. I could easily push it in and out. As for the driver's side, it just exploded into two pieces and foamy oil spilled out like from a milkshake. Has anyone seen that sort of thing happen? I hope I notice a better ride. I was bouncing around way too much. thx

Very unusual... Sounds like your shock may have taken on a little bit of water that tends to foam when heated and mixed with oil.

Shocks are pressurized, and this is a real risk when they are older as the metal fatigues and rusts. Has never happened to me, but I've been warned of the occurance.
