Default Terrible Stock Audio on 2014 Silverado

Got a 2014 Silverado Z71 last week. LOVE the truck, but one big thing is bothering me a lot...the stereo. It sounds awful. It's not the Bose system but it's got the MyLink touchscreen (I think all 2014s do? not sure). I had the Bose system in my '05 and it sounded pretty bad, but after I swapped out the head unit it sounded fantastic. I don't think I want to do that this time considering that the head unit is so much more than just a stereo. Does anyone have suggestions on how to make this system sound better? I can put new speakers in, but I'm skeptical that that'll make much of a difference. I've read about the Kicker VSS Powerstage, but $1,200 is way above my budget.

Hmmm... first off, GO WINGS!!!!!!!!

But actually I think my move would be to check junkyards and craigslist for wrecked 2014+ pickups and yukons and try to pull a bose system out. You'd get it much cheaper and I honestly think they are pretty awesome sounding. Just my $.02

Good call. I agree on Bose, too...some of the other 2014s I test drove w/the Bose system sounded really good.

Go Wings! :-D

I would also recommend you look for Bose Units, and then swap out the door speakers with Infinity speakers. They have adjustable directional mids and highs that you can direct up from the floor board to you. I use to install stereos before I went in the military. The Bose unit also has a powerful amp, so make sure you pull the amp too when you find a truck with one you can snag. The amp for the bose has more clean power than the stock generic amp that comes in them. I have the Bose dolby digital surround in my Sierra Denali and the difference between that and the system in my Silverado was night and day.

Thank you for the suggestion, MenaceRx. Last week, I decided to get Kicker 40CS6934 6x9 speakers for the front doors and Pioneer TS-A1686R 6.5" speakers for the back doors. We'll see how they sound once I install them. Hopefully I won't need anything else!
