any ideas on how to fix this? the pedal never suffered
trauma, so i suspect the tear began as fatigue. They
are still attached at the bottom, but they will not mate
up even under moderate force.

the dealer says no way as a warranty repair ... the part
is $90 ... the R&R seems immense ...

I was thinking of taking it to shop to have it arc welded
and using for protection a piece of sheet metal behind
the arm, and maybe another piece as a "ceiling", but
have not yet found a shop willing to repair it this way.

Go to a muffler shop and ask them to run a bead on there. Bout $20. Just take some old towels and stuff to put on the floorboard to keep from gettin burnspots.

 

I got to ask... How on Earth did you manage to do that? ???????? Oh could you find that part inn a salvage yard?

 

probably a defect in the original part, 1999 silverado ext cab ... but gotta admit that until it tore, I set the p-brake every time I parked.

 

One day 5 years ago I had some guys in an rural welding shop weld the tear in the pedal. It's been working fine ever since.
