Default Turn Key: Not much happening

This past weekend we went to Cottonwood Campground on the San Juan to do a little fishing. Truck has been great since I bought it last spring.
2006 GMC Z 71 SLT. Tow package.
Went to start the truck Saturday: Dash lights went on, gages work, nothing else happened. Wiggled the shifter arm in park: nothing. Put in neutral tried again: nothing. Put back in park: nothing. Put in neutral: Started. Is something about to go bad? Worked fine for the 150 mile trip home.
I'm an old retired school teacher and would appreciate any opinions on what is going on.
Thanks,
Steve

I would check my neutral safety switch. It's simple and fairly quick to fix if it's the culprit.

I would have to agree with The Outlaw
Neutral Safety Switch has moved or is beginning to go faulty
