I've got a 99 R/T with the 5.9 in it.You have 3 choices, it all depends how much money you have.
Cheapest route= 1.Put in the KnN air intake $300.00
2.Dual Catback Exhaust $800.00
3.Get a Jet Stage 2 chip $300.00 (You'll have to put in Super Unleaded 91 octane fuel in
order to use a stage 2 chip)
4.Replace the stock thermostat with the biggest one that fits (The cooler your R/T runs the
better off it is) $10.00

5.Get a programmer for the brain to take the guvernor off (The motor is programmed to
cut out at 120 m.p.h. from the factory)
You can also do a variety of other things as well with this gadget...

Spendy route= Supercharge it!!! $3,000.00 to $5,000.00

Way spendy route= Turbocharge it $4,000.00 on up plus a lot of headaches if not done properly.

Hope this helps.

Oh, as far as lowering the truck...It's already factory lowered to begin with.If your trying to make it look cooler by lowering it don't ruin your truck. If it's for better handling purposes pay the money and get it done right...

Just a friendly heads up, buddy of mine had two of those, same year. Just watch the transmission when ya can. Keep it serviced, check fluid. He blew two of em in a year. Something about that model year for the Dakota. Still a fantastic truck, better you learn this way than how he did.

Come up with some lift kits, some nice rims, an awesome stereo and most importantly with some nice paint job
