Default Air intake and turbo

Please forgive if this has been posted before! I have a 2002 F-350 7.3 Deisel. I work for a fire department and a mechanic of ours once told me that if you have a cold air intake system, it could cause damage to the turbo. Meaning, bits of dust and dirt can damage the blades in the turbo because the filter (K&N) is not trapping as much dirt. Has anyone ever heard of this? I suppose it is feasible depending on the environment you drive in.

Yes the Ford techs refer to this as "dusting" a turbo. Just ask the guys who repair these trucks. If you don't seal the intake system correctly it can and does happen.
