Issues with 2008 Silverado Lifters Again
I purchased a 2008 Silverado with the 5.3 engine, new and had to replace the lifters and cams so far. Now this truck is experiencing the same issue again with less than 50K on the new cam and lifters. I would like to know if this is a common issue with this truck? My local dealer is saying its from running it with low oil but my oil level looks ok and I have not seen any errors saying my oil was low. I'm at the point now where I will not buy another GM product again. The dealer is now saying there is an issue with lifters 4 and 6. Shouldn't that replaced all the lifters when it was under warranty? I am only at 138k obliviously over the warranty. What happen in pride in your product.

Yeah lifters are silly common on the 5.3.
You can't really go by any low oil indicators. Always check your oil using the dipstick. It's hard to say what makes them fail, but they do fail often. 50K miles is quite the long time .. I'd say have it done again, and see how it goes. a 2008 truck with 138K is still a pretty nice truck.

So I just got a quote from the garage that looked at my truck today. The problem is associated with the Active Fuel Management System(AFM). There is a kit out that disables the AFM and replaces the lifters and camshaft.
The total for this fix is about $3K. This sucks and makes me not want to buy GM ever!!!!!!!
