What's the actual oil capacity for a 2003 Tundra V8?
I recently changed oil for the first time on my new (to me) 2003 Tundra V8. The manual states the oil capacity, including filter, is 6.5 quarts. Before changing, the dipstick was right on the full mark but surprisingly almost 7.5 quarts of oil drained from the crankcase and filter (yes, the truck was level when draining).
So far, I have put about 6 ¾ quarts in the crankcase but the dipstick still reads low; about halfway between the low and full mark (yes it has been started and driven a bit).
So, I can only conclude either the dipstick is inaccurate or the oil capacity, as stated in the manual, is wrong. (note: the dipstick appears to be the OEM with a round yellow handle and the length, measured from the bottom of the handle to the tip, is 23 3/16”).
Anyone know the actual scoop on this?
Thanks.
