Snow Tire HELP!!!!

Default Snow Tire HELP!!!!

New to the forum and need some help with snow tires on my f350 heres my situation.
I have moved finally to Big Sky Country. I have had some experience driving on snow but this place here is tucked back in the mountain side off a dirt road.When the snow started flying and the roads got packed down my 37" Toyo's Open Country MT's suck.

Any advice on a good tire for these type condition.
question 1 PACKED Snow covered roads
question 2 what air pressure do I run.

I have BFG Mud and All Terrain as my snow tires in Northern Ontario.
I like them. I always seem to be the guy towing other out of the ditch.

They are also capable of installing street studs, but I didn't have to.
Street stud might be an option for you in the mountains

But those are just a standard size tire right Glenn? Like a 265/75R16 or somewhere along those lines?

Ya They are stock size 265 70R 17
I run NITTO tires as summer tires but they make a nice aggressive mud and all terrain that is simular to my BFG and they come in 37s

The problem with anything classified as "mud" tires is they are made of a harder rubber, so they last longer. On hard packed snow and ice, in my experience they don't do very well. What kind of snow do you guys get down there?

I have to agree With the larger lug I don't get a lot of grip on the ice. But they have never left me stranded. I could still always get were I needed to go in 4x4

Yea. Its been raining here for the last two days (seems to happen every year, and then it will drop to -20 again), and it's freezing to the road. I pulled 11 people out of the ditch today. I have studded cooper snow tires on my truck, and even in four wheel drive, I wasn't getting any traction Twice, I was sitting at a complete stop at a stop light, and the truck slid sideways till it hit the curb just because of the slope of the road. When I had mud tires on the truck last year, I drove in the ditch because the truck would go better in the ditch with two feet of soft snow then on the road with glare ice.

Now that's winter weather!
Nothing beats studs on the ice or chains in the snow. Michigan has outlawed studs years ago, we have access to what seems to be endless amounts of road salt. At least they spread it like it's an endless supply Then there is the synthetic pretreatment liquids they put down 1-2 days before they even think it might snow. There are days the roads are white from salt/de-icers and we never get anything.
