Hello every one.
This truck is fairly new to me and I do not know the history on how well it was maintained.
I have a 1997 1500 Ram with an auto transmission that dose not know what gear it is supposed to be in. It shifts up and down constantly, when it is cold it may jump out of gear a time or two. At speeds over 60 it is OK. Can anyone offer some suggestions?

Is the check engine light on? If it si a 4x4 there is a shift sensor. located on the front axle.It could be a dirty or loose connector. Di-electric grease from parts store and a couple of hours of applying to all sensors relays could save you big bucks before taking to shop. You can rent scan tool from auto zone for nothing, just a deposit until returned, Also a Haynes repair manuel is less than twenty bucks. It will tell you how to check resistance with ohm meter on relays and sensors. Good luck
