2002 Duramax 4x4 LT crewcab short box Good Truck or Bad Truck?

I know it's kinda a weird question but I would like to hear from the diesel guys since this is my very first diesel truck. It has 119,000 miles and is in good condition. The only other owner who bought it new towed a fifth wheel around for about 20,000 miles or a little less.

Thank You Chris

This is old as hell but since no one around here bothered to reply I'll help you out a little. The lb7 had injector issues so you might want to check and see if they've ever been replaced. It's only a matter of time until they'll need it. Otherwise, they're great trucks to have. Regular maint. and you should be fine.

I don't know how I missed this one...

At work we've got a 2001 Duramax that the guys just beat the living crap out of. The only thing that's been done to it since new is fluids, tires, brakes, and alternator. It's at 394,000 miles now

Thank You very much for writting me back. The dealer told me that this truck has had the injector system replaced at another dealership by the original owner. I was at the dealership having my glow plugs replaced. They first told a Chevrolet rep. that I would have to pay for the diagnostic but when I showed up requesting that they put that in writting they went ahead and pulled codes and whatever else to tell me that 6 of the 8 plugs were bad. The "writer"(service) told me the plugs were aftermarket and I would have to pay. He quoted me $380. I talked him down to $270 OTD and he agreed.I ended up not paying them anything! I will tell you about that later.I have a real problem that I would like to throw at you.The code P-405 the book says "Exhaust gas recirculation Sensor A circuit Low" Check engine light comes on about 25miles after I clear it.If the truck sits for 24-48 hours it 'long cranks' as if the plugs aren't heating up.I first thought weak batteries cuzz they both are 730 CCA and preferably the truck calls for a 800 CCA batts.I don't think thats the problem(s) If I drive it and warm it up, it starts just fine. Whda think Kevin? I want to express my gratitude for you and all the other guys on this site. This is cool, and I want you "ALL" too know that I'm a happy guy when I'm talkin with you "BOYS"...Thank You I hope to have many good conversations with everybody!

hmmm... I'm not sure about that one...? Did the dealer offer a 500 mile warranty or anything on a used car? How come they didn't fix it themselves... I can't imagine a dealer would sell a car that needs work.

As far as the batteries go, I would definitely make sure you have the correct ones. We had an 06Dmax that had the DELCO batteries still in it and they were junk. If we left the trailer hooked up to it and left it sitting for an hour it would die. We replaced them with Duralast 1000ccas and what difference. The truck strarted right up and it just ran much smoother simply because the Alternator wasn't always working

Is this a Cali emissions truck? Gotta be if you're throwin egr codes on an lb7.

basswall 04-26-2011 05:53 AM

Yes it is.

LBZDMAX 04-26-2011 02:58 PM

Thought so. Aftermarket exhaust? If so, the egr codes are no biggie and won't affect performance. Check air filter and maf just to be sure.

basswall 04-27-2011 03:16 AM

No, stock exhaust. The truck is "long cranking" when starting it??
