Which diesel should i choose.

So im thinking about getting my first diesel truck. Im looking for a truck anywhere from 04 and up. This is where the hard part comes in. My cap is 25,000 i want it to be 4x4 with close to 100,000 miles on it or is that (to little or to much) for buying used. From my understanding you can put a lot of miles on diesels after the 6 digit mark is this true??? Truck also has to be low maintenance dont want it to be in the shop all the time. Thanks, any help will be appreciated im a newbie so bare with me!:D

A lot of the newer diesel trucks, like the years you're looking at, require maintenance regularly. With regular maintenance though, you'll be able to get a lot of miles from the truck and not spend a bundle while doing so.

'04.5-06 Duramax would be a good candadite the earlier ones have harder to replace fuel injectors and the '07+have more emmisions equipment. '03-06 Dodge/Cummins with the 5.9 would be a nice truck and I'd avoid a Ford with a 6.0L IMO.

Ford has been getting some bad press over their Super Duty diesel trucks, with some of them breaking down and having other problems with control and power.

Hi;
Have had my truck since new in '02. I've been pretty religious about maintenance, it sat for two years while I was deployed, has 125K miles on it, and it has been fabulous! It was manufactured in Canada.
I haven't had any problem with fuel injectors, a few problems with axle seals and had to replace the idler pully something or other (I can change the oil & fuel filter but that's it!). It's an incredibly comfortable road trip vehicle, tons of room, and rides really well.
Hope this info is helpful.

Fords main issue was the egr valve. If you run the egr delete it helps alot. There extremely small exhaust doesnt help with the power loss the Duramax after 03 is pretty impressive overall. Cummins is also a good one to go with especially with a 6 speed manual. But I am a chevy guy so Id go Duramax. 03-07
