06 Canyon Exhaust help

Hi, recently bought an 06 canyon 3.5 vortec, ext cab pickup pickup from a guy who bought a bigger truck. I need help on changing the exhaust system he put on it. it has 3" pipe, its Y under the pickup bed and exhaust on ea side with 3.5" tips. It has no muff, stock cat. no other changes on it.

it sounds terrible, like a race car, not a pickup. im lookin for that v8 sound, if possible.

cat-back sys from magnaflow, or borla are out of the question, even on ebay there to $$$ and im going for sound not looks..

From what i have been told from 2 guys is, go for a Flowmaster muffler, Super 44, 40 Series Delta Flow , or the plain jane 40 series. With single in dual out setup. keep the 3in pipe to the muff, then 2.5" pipe out, OR 2.25 out.

What do u guys think? btw should i trash the 3.5" Echo tips, and go smaller?

Opinions are appreciated, plz keep on topic.... TY

I like how you don't even know us and yet you know we like to stray off topic :)

I am going to get the CAT back system that LMC truck sells for my truck. I'm a little confused on your post because as far as I know, I have neve Ever heard of a Canyon with a 350. Are you sure its not a 5.3?? If you look in the Silverado forum under the post "deals", there is a really good post going on exhaust and backpressure that is really enlightening

Welcome to the forum by the way!

haaha, i know everyone does stray off topic when it comes to this. no its a canyon with 3.5L engine. it says vortec right on it.

but i will look for that post. thx

Ok I got you now, 3.5liters, not 350. When saying that you have a 350, you are saying that your truck's engine has a displacement of 350 cubic inches. In order to find out the displacement in inches to liters or the opposite, multiply or divide by 62. 350/62 is 5.7liters, which is the V8 that is in my truck. You're 3.5 would have a displacement of 217 Cubic inches. Ok I'm done with that statement now.

And now back to your original question, The reason you aren't getting the sound or performance you want is because of exactly what that thread I led you to discusses, backpressure. You trying to push air through a 3" pipe with a 6cylinder engine is like trying to put your face up to a culvert pipe and trying to expel all of your air out the other side. Defenitely need something smaller. Someone else should chime in sooner or later I would hope
