Lowering My s-10

Hey all,</P>

I got a 1999 s-10 that i want to make look a little better, so i'm wanting to put in new rims, lower the body and some new head and tail lights and stuff like that. But i heard that if you lower the body and put on low-profile tires, your ride will REALLY REALLY be ruff. is that true? and if it is how can i fix it?</P>

</P>

Thanks alot!</P>

If it is lowered it is going to tense up the suspension and stiffen the
ride. No way around that unless you want to cut your springs, which is
a bad idea.

You could get some adjustable shocks to put on and set them to the
softest setting. That way you will have a nice easy ride to roll on.
Though your handling is going to suck. Lowering the car was originally
intended to make better driveability and handling.

Oh yeah and one way you can make anything look better is by making it faster.

Air bags are another good way to go.

the best way to lower it would to bag it because the other things do make it rough, stiff and bouncy.if i was you i would bag it,and put a set of 18's on it with a bumper kit euros all around, and a roll pan. and top it off with a bed cover. hey my name is zeke TOO good luck </P>

It depends on how much you want to lower it. Most people use lowered springs, which usually have a stiffer spring rate. You could use lowered spindles up front and still use the stock springs/shocks. Just make sure you have enough tire clearance with the steering at full lock. For the back, you could use the blocks that go between the axle and leaf springs. The spindles and blocks are only good for about 2+ inches of lowering, so if you want more than that you will have to sacrifice some ride quality. Good luck. <edited><editID>Sparkee</editID><editDate>38107.3875115741</editDate></edited>

One of my friends lowered his s-10 and was not satisfied with the shocks so we re did it with the bags and it was an improvement but thats just his opinion to me it lost alot of ride quality but if your looking for ride quality then get a lexus or something just lower it and whatever else but make sure you make it alot faster, you cant have a cool car without speed!!!!!!!</P>

RE: Lowering My s-10

This is my first post on this forum due to not finding the new thread button but here is my questions. A factory ride can be obtained by using front 2inch dropped spindles for the front. The spindles keep your geometry the same and allow you to keep the stock shocks. The rear you can use blocks which anything past 3inches rides pretty bad. If you have an extended cab you need to run angled blocks for pinion angle. That right there will give you a 2inch drop in the front and 3inch drop in the back.

Now if you really want a good ride you can search around on ebay and look for ZQ8 coil springs and leaf springs. If you just do that it will give you a 1.5 drop all around. You will need to get the bilstine shocks all around or something similar. Now for a 3.5/4.5 drop you can combine the top 2/3 drop with the ZQ8 1.5 drop. I have that drop on my sonoma and the ride is good. You will need to trim the bumpstops or completly cut out the bumpstop bracket for clearance issues.

As for bags. Yes they ride great but it's all a matter of your budget. Air ride is only as good as you make. You could do a ****ty system and spend 500 bucks and it ride like a boat or you could spend 2-3 grand and it ride like a caddy. If you want to know more about the air ride and what are the best parts just reply and I shall help.
