00 silverado gas gauge
 

my gas gauge bounces from full to empty and the message center "low fuel" light comes on even when tank is full. I was told it was expensive and required replacing a whole cluster to the gauges I assume.Can it be fixed easy and without alot of expense.I heard this is a common problem

mine does that only when its time to fill up...when it only has a 1/4 tank left, i just figured it was the sending unit but i never really checked.

it is not likelythe gauge cluster it is usuallythe two metal prongs on the resistor for the floaton the fuel pumpi see this problem fairly often they wear through and make contact only every now and then that is why the gauge tends to bounce i also had the samr problem on my truck i just took theprongs off ablazer fuel pump we had laying in the shop

You can also try to put some Lucas fuel injection cleaner in the tank cause sometimes the contacts get gummed up and that will clean them.

This is becoming somewhat common. Last post is right on! It's the float sticking. Fuel injector cleaner, max. strengh about quarter tank.
I've had luck doing hard stop and accel. to move the float around.
It's almost always the float.
