'02 stock radio question

picking up my '02 z71 x-cab tomorrow. Was wondering if subs can be hooked up to the stock cd player or not. I used to have an '03 S10 and had to buy an aftermarket head unit to hook up my subs, and I have a friend that has an '02 F250 and has the subs hooked to his stock cd player.
I've got 2 volfenhag 1000w 12's in a box for a dodge ram and a 2000w legacy 4 channel amp which I got from a friend for free. Wondering if I can hook these up or not.

RE: '02 stock radio question

I am unaware of all the changes that were made from 2002 to the 2003 models so I could be wrong. I had an '03 model that I put subs in with the factory radio still installed. But, it didn't have the output and adjustments of a "good" aftermarket so they didn't hit as hard or sound as good due to not being able to tweek it. I bought an aftermarket radio and it sounded and hit much better. The factory radio had to stay hooked up (under the back seat linked to the wiring harness of the aftermarket radio) for a lot of the electrical components of the truck to work. You should be able to do it with just the factory.

Hope this helps,
Corey

RE: '02 stock radio question

pretty sure that if you add a "line out" convertor in-line using the speaker wires. there are a bunch of different "line out" devices but all the ones i've seen give you rca jacks to hook your amps up to. that way people with steering wheel stereo controls can have a sub AND still keep the steering wheel controls.
this is probably too late for you now, i'm sure you already got this figured out, but someone else will probably want to know.
