03 2500 hd parking brake entire replacement
I've read up a bunch on this thing but quite a bit of info out there contradicts itself. I am replacing the entire rear brakes as well as bearings. I went so far as to remove the full floater axle to replace the parking brake backing plate but am having a hard time getting the plate off. My service manual as well as some documents from the dealer say to remove tension from the cable from the parking brake cable adjuster before removing the spring on the cable at each wheel. They call it an equilizer nut as it simply connects the cable from the pedal to a "Y" to each tire. My truck has the "y" but there is no nut to remove tension on the spring to the lever. It looks like i have to compress the spring on the brake cable lever manually to free it from the backing plate lever but i literaly don't see a way of seperating the two as there is so much tension on the spring . Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
