1 Ton

well my 1 Ton decided it's pulling days are over, frame rusted out in one spot and gave way when i hit the breaks pulling my trailer,

So my question is what year of truck would you guys recommend for a 1 Ton dually that I use to pull a 36FT 3x7000 pound axles, that goes 800km once or twice a week

any pros or cons of what each year would be appreciated as well

Thanks in advance

Depends on your budget of course, but I am a big fan of the 96-00 Vortec 454's. They can be had fairly inexpensively and are a beast. I have one in my Suburban and it pulls our boat with ease even through the mountains. I used to have an 8.1 liter truck and it was a great truck too. They will be quit a bit more expensive but have a little bit more technology in them. I like the coil over plug in the 8.1's which eliminates the distributor and having spark plug wires run all over the motor. This makes tune-ups a lot easier. The one downfall to the Vortec 454's IMO is working around that big ass intake - it makes getting to the distributor, FPR, etc. a pain in the butt. They are very good long lasting motors though! If money isn't an option than I have heard a lot of good things from Duramax owners, but you will need to bring your wallet, your piggybank, your secret stash, your wife's wedding ring, and then some to buy one. Good luck!

It sounds to me like you should really be considering diesels. If you're a diehard Chevy guy, the Duramax is a decent engine that is capable of a lot of work with a little tlc.

If your open to any brand, you might also want to consider the Cummins Rams. I have 2 of them, and once you get past the brand loyalty BS, they're simply wonderful trucks.
I've also owned two one ton GMC Duramax truck, also good trucks, but when it was time to replace them (one at a time) I did so with the Rams.

In either case, I doubt you can go wrong.

I'm not really thrilled with the new Powerstroke diesels, though. In my opinion both GM and Ram have got the Ford diesels, beat.
But, then again, I've only been buying diesels pickings for about 22 years, and have owned multiples of all three American brands, but what do I know. lol

Of the three, my personal ranking would be Cummins - Duramax - (New) Powerstroke.

Not trying to start a war, just offering my 2¢.

btw, I've seen GMC and Chevy 3500 Duramax crew cabs with about 100,000 miles on them for $25,000, and they will get 20-22 MPG without the trailer.

100K miles isn't a lot on a diesel, and if you can find a 2 or 3 year old one off lease, you should still be able to put another 300K or 400K on it with no difficulty. Not bad for a $25 or 30K investment.
Hell, my 5.3 L Sierra crew cab was $34,000.00!
