1500 fuel pump

I need to know which way is the easiest way to change the fuel pump. It went out on me tonight. would it be easier to drop the tank or to lift the bed of the truck?

Thanks in advance

I just did mine a couple weeks ago. Lift the bed. 8 bolts, a couple screws around the gas fill spout and wires in the back. I lifted it and set is on the bumper and back tire so you can access the tank. In total it took me about 3 hours to do, with a couple buddies helping out.

Well I know what I'm doing this weekend. Now I have to get some beer and pizza. LOL mrradiation thanks for the info. You wouldn't happen to have a pic of where thew bolts are would you?

4 bolts on each side, inside the frame. Front 2 on each side are easy to get too. The very front on is easily seen, next back there is an access hole on the bottom of the frame to get to it. Third one I had to remove the spare to get access to the bolts, kinda tight on that one. Forth set I had to end up removing one of the bolts for the hitch to get access to the bolt. The are pretty easy to see once you get under there.

Sorry but no pics of the bolts.

I also need to do my fuel pump in my 93 silverado with the 4.3 5 speed. What is the most reliable brand fuel pump to put in? Do you guys know of anywhere where I can get the wire harnes that comes from the top of the tank to the fuel pump? The shop said that is what cause my fuel pump to wear out prematurely.

For your 93 use a Bosch or AC Delco... no autoparts name brand pump. I have seen them go out to many times after replacing them.

I was planning on going with AC Delco. Any idea/advice on the wires coming out of the top of the tank? Have you guys ever heard of these wearing out your fuel pump? I personally think the shop is full of BS.

personally i think its easier to drop the tank than lift the bed. if you can still drive it run the fuel tank almost completely out if not pump it out with a hand operated siphon pump. use a tranny jank under the tank, or a floor jack works as well. un bolt the straps lower the tank down enough that you can get the lines disconnected drop the tank the rest of the way out and put it back in in the reverse order. the tank is lighter than the bed and there is less bolts to drop the tank.
