i dont use synthetic oil, but we've had this discussion before on here and it seems to me it was kind of a tie... depends on how often you want to change your oil whether you should use synthetic or conventional

Hell, if you've got 170K on it and it runs like a watch, keep doing whatever it is you are doing! :D

If you haven't used synthetic since new then use whatever you have been using. I would say like middle of the road fluids or better. Synthetic only pays off if you have used it since day one. I use Mobil 1 and Lucas products only.

Everything I've read says stick with what came in your truck. If it came with Dexcool in it. Don't switch. You can hose your truck up. You can however add Red Line Water Wetter to it. It will bring your temp down a few degrees. As for oil, I'd go with Royal Purple or Red Line same on the transmission. Lucas makes a good transmission fluid as well. Get yourself a K&N oil filter with that mileage. I'd think about a FilterMag for your oil filter and your transmission pan to trap all those bits of metal running through your engine. Just remember not to remove the magnet from the filter prior to removing the filter.

Carolina Classic Trucks Inc. Has $40 180 degree thermostats. They are Hypertech PowerStats, its what I have and it works great.
