1980 K10 Build
3 Attachment(s)
Here it is my wonderful 1980 K10 500CID Caddy engine. I bought it for 1700.00 it runs drives shifts out of park a little hard leaks some oil and burns some GAS!!! But it is awesome.
First thing to fix is the steering gear box there is about 4" of play while your going down the road. You might think its just fun to drive but I guess it should be a little tighter. Next I think Ill do some body mods and save up and put a Chevy motor back in there. There is a lot of things that are unknown and a lot of pieced together stuff on this truck but thats what makes it fun right. Ill be here a lot for some help on some stuff and to update this to help others. Attachment 1738 Attachment 1739 Attachment 1740 |
Looks like a pretty cool build! It's amazing you got that for $1700. I look forward to future build pictures :D
By the way, welcome to the site! |
Personally, I would leave the Caddy in there...they are a real torque monster. You can probably get decent mileage out of it with a good tune up. Even a Chevy engine is going to get sucky mileage in a truck like that. Just too much weight, gears and wind resistance.

Got the new steering gear box in this morning applied some penetrating oil on this old thing to make sure those bolts are loose for tomorrow morning.

I do love the Caddy engine its just pretty hard to find cheap parts around here in Illinois. What would you say a hard shift into gear is caused from. The transmission shifts great driving just after its warm it shifts hard into gear.

that body style looks good lifted. Its nice to see there are some still on the road.
a neighbor had a extended or quad cab (can't remember which) which I didn't think they made. He dropped a cummins in it. It was awesome. |
Nice rig, definitely a unique truck with that Cadi engine in it

I am wondering how they adapted the Caddy engine to the Chevy bellhousing? I dont think the Chevys ever came with the dual bolt pattern
