1986 gmc clutch/slave

So my slave cylinder went out two days ago. I know it was the slave cause when you depress clutch pedal slave would spray from piston. I replaces slave. heres where it gets weird. I bled the system in a traditional manner to no avail. i ended up removing line from slave to master and master to reservoir. blew all out with compressed air and bled it back together (messy) with helper. I even blew thru the master. all is flowing well but I have no pressure under pedal. pumped and pumped and pumped no pressure slave will not budge at all. now heres the weird part. I went to start truck thinking truck would create pressure. wrong. no click no crank no nothing out of starter. starter has always worked with no problems. I do not know of a neutral safety switch as you can start this truck in gear and it will lunge forward. battery is good all gauges work with full power. WTF. does anybody know why no pressure will build in system? any help you can give would be appreciated

just out of curiosity. why do you have to remove the starter?

Oh that was for a different vehicle. It was in the way of the slave cylinder on that one.
