Just replacing the filter will usually drain around 4 qts. Put that then shift your gears for a min then check level.

Default 1986 GMC High Sierra 1500 restoration?

So my grandfather has an 86' GMC Sierra 1500 (not 100% sure) and it sits in the driveway of my grandparents house. It was at one point in time his daily vehicle for everything, but he had to stop using it cause it had alot of issues by this point in time. Me and him talked about it and he's agreed to let me have it so I've been wanting to fix it and get it running again. The problem however is I don't know where to begin nor how to do it but I'm willing to give it everything I got to learn about this truck from top to bottom to fix it properly. For starters, it needs a whole new engine so I know that I'll for sure have to do an engine swap, but I was wondering what engine I could put in it and make it last, second it needs a new fuel pump if I can recall what he told me. It for sure needs a new windshield cause it got cracked from a tree falling on it (it's not bad but it cracked a bit so obviously I'll have it changed out) and new shocks as well due to said tree. It'll need a new radiator and all the hoses for it cause the hoses have been stripped out of it for other cars through out the last year or so. My main concern of all this though is the engine, cause the engine was so trashed the last time he used the vehicle that it just was a dead truck. I know its very likely that the truck is just done for and it may never run again, but I'm willing to take the chance and money to see if it at least will run again. So I think what I'm asking for the most is help to see where to start at. I don't know if I'll get a reply or anything for this thread but any help is welcome and appreciated.
