1988 Chevy Silverado 4x4, no heat, fuse blows every 6 months.

My mom has this truck it had a problem where the fuse for the heater blew about a year ago and they had no heat. She contacted the stealership and payed 400.00 to have the problem fixed, as they said it was a common problem. Well, about 6 months later it happened again so she called them back and they were surprised but said just bring it back and we'll fix it for free. Now a year later and 2 times to the stealership, it has happened again. I am wondering if the fuse is the right size but if any one can offer some online clues as to what the problem may be, please share.

For $400 it's worth changing the fuse every 6 months.
Does it happen only when the heat is turned on for the first time each season? When the heat is turned to max? Only on extremely cold days?

My mom lives in the mountains of West Virginia and she said this morning was frigid and they went to turn the heat on by pushing the button and moments later the light is off and then all the controls for the heat/air were dead, no little indicator light. they checked the fuse, and it had blown again. Does anyone have access to what size fuse should be in there. I was thinking maybe the fuse is too small a amperage.

An autoparts store should be able to tell you what size fuse is required.
If there is a heating element (I don't know if there is) it may be touching another piece of metal and drawing to much amperage.
I am not familiar enough with the heating/cooling system to give a definitive answer. If the dealership is willing to stand behind thier work I would continue to return it to them until they are tired of seeing you and fix it properly.

I has to do with a bad wiring or something, I replaced the entire electonic controller and it didn't work. I replaced fuses and so on with no luck. I would come and go from time to time. I never did figure it out. I left it hanging out and if you unplugged it and replugged it back in it would work fine.

yea but on an 88 its going to the cable controlled vents not much electrical at all. does it do this on ac to, could be something to do with the blower resistor.
