1990 Chevy Turn Signal Assembly Pivot Pin
Greetings,
The Truck: 1990 Chevy K1500 w/tilt, cruise, & wiper delay. All original 350 V8 w/5 speed & 4x4 I'm going to go with the short version of this story. I tore apart the steering column to fix the wobbly tilt steering these trucks are known for. While inside the column I found the turn signal switch plastic was cracked so I figured I might as well fix it while I've got it tore down. Then I discovered the Column Housing was cracked around the ignition key, and I was missing the Dimmer switch Actuator. This actuator is the link between the turn signal, the dimmer switch rod, and the dimmer switch mounted on the side of the column under the dash. This prompted me to order a Steering column Housing repair kit from Parts geek (Part Number:US-165L) because it includes a new housing, the actuator I was missing, and a few other parts I don't need. After receiving all the parts I've started to reassemble everything, and this is where I've run into a problem. I've swapped the turn signal lever assembly to the new housing and had the column back together 3 different times now. The pivot pin for the turn signal lever keeps backing out. The problem is when I turn on the Brights they won't turn off again because the pin has backed out, and then the assembly has enough play it can't depress the dimmer switch enough to turn the Brights off. Anyone have any suggestions? Short of drilling/tapping a 4-40 hole in the pin and putting a screw in one side of the pin I'm at a loss on what to do. Thanks, DJ |
