1991 K1500 starting problem
Hi. My K1500 is having difficulty starting when it's cold outside. I have to press the accelerator pedal to get it started, then it idles rough until the engine warms up.
I've been told to check the temp coolant sensor, but I have a coolant gauge and it reads properly, so I can't see it being that. I've also heard maybe an intake leak can cause this. Any advice? How do I test the sensor? What about the mass airflow sensor? Thanks in advance. Sean |
When is the last tiem you cleaned your MAF? I think I might try that.

Okay, I was going to take your advice - went out and bought some electronics cleaner. I'm probably an idiot, but I popped my hood and could not find the MAF sensor. I have the Haynes manual for my truck and it shows the MAP located in the duct before the aircleaner (I have a large, round style air cleaner); shouldn't the MAF come between the air filter and the TBI? There is some kind of screw-in sensor at the base of the TBI that has 4-wires, could this be it? Something isn't right here...

There is a possibilty that the engine in my truck is not factory (previous owner told me that the engine was rebuilt).

Okay, I solved the mystery of the missing MAF sensor. I checked the electrical schematics and 1988 to 1995 models don't have MAF sensors.
Getting back to my problem... I checked for vacuum leaks. What else could I look for? |
