1998 Sierra front end sound?
My 1998 GMC Sierra has a bit of a high pitch squeel or whine comming from the front when I turn. Could this be tie rod? Also sometimes when I turn a corner it seems like the wheels have some delay and go straight for like a second, not a smooth turn.
Thanks alot, Shawn |
RE: 1998 Sierra front end sound?
I believe 99 was the year chevy went to the new body style like mine, so im not too good with your trucks front end. The idler arm and pitman arm are two stupid steering components that will crap out with light use. Idk what GM was thinking with the IFS on our trucks but they really blew it, ive put around 1500$ in repairs to the IFS on my truck from four wheeling. Im done with that.. lol but to answer you question, those components could be your problem, if not id try for new conrtol arm bushings. If the squeel is drawn out and sounds like a dieing cat its the belt, but im sure you know what that sounds like. Hope you can get that figured out, if not get a quote from the dealership.

RE: 1998 Sierra front end sound?
Thanks for the response, I don't think it's the front end but not sure. The sound is pretty quiet, and to me it sounds like it's comming from the steering column itself? I checked the steering fluid and it's fine.
Any Ideas? Thanks |
