2000 Silverado "Pops" out of 1st
 

Hello all, new member here.

I have a 2000 Silverado 1500 LS 2WD with the 4.8 liter and 5sp manual tranny. It's been incredibly relaible and trouble free until I hit 135,000 miles. (about 30% heavy hauling/towing & 70% freeway commute with almost no "stop&go" traffic.

Suddenly it pops out of first gear from a stop. This happens at least 50% of the time now. Sometimes it happens quietly, other times it sounds like I hit a boulder!

Anyone experience this? Any suggestions? How difficult is it to put in a upgraded beefier trans?

I had the same problem with my Conquest but instead of taking my hand off the shifter all the time, I just learned to keep my hand on the shifter. It only took a tiny bit of pressure and no problem at all.

Racethisz71 you are correct. My buddies schronizors went out on his 91 truck in 5th gearand weripped the trany out the 5th gear schs. were likebig brass washers. Replaced them and it worked fine after that.
