2000 Starting problems
 

I have a 2000 Sierra with 57,000 miles. I purchased it new and have kept all maintenance up-to-date. My truck is not garaged and is subject to the cold Michigan winter nights.

The truck starts normally every morning but cranks quite a bit before starting afterit is shut off and left to sit during the day. Even sitting all day at work does not seem to make a difference. I have noticed that pumping the gas once or even twice seems to help. I always sit a minute after turning on the ignition before starting to crank it. once started, the truck runs w/o problem. At first I though fuel pump or fuel filter, but now I'm not sure since it behaves normally once started.

I am looking for suggesyions.

fuel pressure reg.not working easy change. had same exact problem when i bought my truck have heard many other poeple too.
autozone has for like 47.00

Just joined the Sierra Forum asI am having a similar starting problem. I have a 2003 Sierra that sometimes has trouble starting. My starting problem occurs mostly when the vehicle has been sitting for a day or so. On the first attempt tostart, it takes a long time to start. Starts everytime on the second attempt and runs with no problems.

I was wondering if the fuel pressure reg could be my problem as well?

The fuel pressure regulator, works with the fuel pump to maintain a steady pressure relationship between the fuel line side of the injectors and the intake manifold. You could try doing this test to see if your fuel pressure regulator changes line pressure in response to changes in engine vacuum.

Keep the engine running and disconnect the vacuum hose from the pressure regulator. The fuel system pressure should increase 8 to 12 psi with the line disconnected. No change would indicate a faulty pressure regulator, or a leaky or plugged vacuum line.

I have a 94 EFI and I think I am having the same problem, could someone tell me where to find the pressure regulator as I am not familiar with it or its location. Thanks

Ok replaced pressure reg., It deff. helps cold starting.
