2001 Chevy 2500

I have a 2001 chevy 2500 2wd 4dr short bed with a 6.6l duramax turbo diesel. Recently i've become interested with the idea of making it 4x4. Is what I have been trying to figure out is if I need to buy a whole new transmission or just the transfer case. This is my question.

On a side note, is there anyone that knows everything that would be needed to fully convert a 2001 chevy 2500 to 4x4.

Thanks

Wow man you would be much better off just selling and buying a 4X4. Sorry to be a buzz kill, but there would be a lot to change and your pocket and sanity would definitely take a hit trying to convert one.

it not worth it making it a 4x4

Yeah, except I just bought it and spent 4grand on the injectors being replaced :(

There are reasons why I can't sell this truck and buy a new one. I also think it would be somewhat fun to take on another project and do this. If you could help me out I would be thankful :)

I wouldn't know everything you would need. If you HAD to take on this suicide mission I would suggest hitting the local junk yards and finding a donor truck that you could strip out all the 4 wheel parts and that way you can see how everything goes back in and will have all the little aggravating things like special bolts and harnesses. Good luck and let the force be with you!

I think the computer alone would be more than the truck is worth. Finding a junker would be the best idea. Problem is finding a diesel version might be pretty difficult depending on where you live.
Good luck and you should document the process just in case anyone else decides to take on such a mission.

Ok, Money Tree issue aside ask yourself do I really need a 4WD?

Down and dirty and a whole lot less money if you want to do some off road driving get some good tires, and install air lockers in the rear end. This combo will take you anywhere common sense will go.
