2001 silverado drive train troubles
hi i'm new to the forums and have some maintainance question for my 2002 Silverado Ext Cab 4.8L V8 Auto 4x4
When I even ease in drive sometimes i will hear a creeking/cracking sound and when I go from P to D or change gears at all for that matter in will jerk and sound like a slap, also while moving when the truck swithes gears i will get a little jerk. common sense tells me it seems like it time for a new tranny with roughly 75k miles on it but was wondering it may be anything else before I spend the cash on a new one. Also, I wanted to change out the U joints to see if that would fix it and after spending around 4hrs and not getting any caps off the old U joints i gave up, any suggestion or tips |

U joints...

How many miles? It could be several things. There are things to look at with high mileage vs lower. If you are checking the u-joints remember to jack up the rear end to check.

defintley check your u-joints first. cheap fix in the garage, expensive fix if it lets go on the freeway.

I have the same thing going on with mine, especially when shifting from drive to reverse. I also get a slight vibration between 60-70 MPH. It should be the U-joints.
Hey, how much of a bitch is it to remove the u-joint closest to the yoke? It looks like a bitch to get out! Maybe take it to someone with a press? |
I also suggest you to check U-joint & gear box first because i think after check this definitely you will know about problems.
