I have a 2002 Silverado 1500 LS ext. cab 2WD 4.8 ltr. I replaced all rotors, calipers, hoses, pads, etc. and bench bled the MCyl. and all wheels. My brake pedal goes about 1/2 way to floor before braking. I can push "hard" and go to floor. I had the dealer check and they "flushed master cylinder and bled wheels". Still 1/2 way to floor. Is there an adjustment on the pedal or push rod to raise the engagement point?

 

Just to be sure, you did do the backs as well, correct?

I know that this model truck had rear discs and they were a bit finicky.

 

Yes, I did the back as well. I should have been more clear. I did all 4 wheels. Rotors, calipers, hoses and pads, properly bled. All new hardware. My original problem was rear pads were worn about 80% vs. 40% front. Found that the rears were stuck. Hoses probably deteriorated inside. The only thing I saw that maybe a bit finicky was adjustment of the parking brake. Back to the original question...pedal goes too far down to suit me. Is there an adjustment to give less travel for brake engagement?

Hello, I have an 08 HD Duramax, and had a big problem with the hydroboost. I don't know if your truck has it too, but there is a connection between the power steering fluid which can leak into the master break cylinder. The very first sign was that my front axle had vibrations kinda like missing but coming from the axle. And it got worse with time. When the truck was cold everything was cool. After driving it for about 10 miles the problems started. The brakes got so hot and glazed that we had to change the rotors calipers and pads and the hydroboost. Not sure if my mechanic changed the mbrake cylinder. The brake pedal had zero play. The brakes were on all the time. The truck was undriveable and unutterable. It was towed to my mechanic.Hope this helps.

 

I have been told that there is an adjustable pushrod between the brake booster and the master cylinder. It comes out of the booster and is what pushes on the piston inside the master cylinder. I personally have never set eyes or touched one, but it's worth a shot to pull it out and look at it.

Also, since you have done all this work to the brakes and introduced air into the system, try slamming on the brakes on a gravel/slippery surface a couple of times to let the ABS pump and accumulators do their jobs and hopefully push out any air pockets that could potentially be trapped in the system. After you've done a few stops on a slippery surface, and your ABS has kicked on a few times, go ahead and bleed the brakes again.
