2003 3500 Rear Brake Question
 

I amreplaceingthe rearbrakes on a 2003 3500 dually and wondered what procedures to follow. Does the axle shaft, hub and bearing have to come off to replace the rotors? If so what is the recomended bearing nut preload torque after assembly? I have searched for service manuals for this truck, but I can not find anything. If anyone can shed some light on the subject, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Depends...

Some years,the rotors slid off..others they were solid with the hub.

I have no clue of your skills/tools...but this not "easy",especially if its all solid.
The biggest bitch is getting the caliper bolts out...the uppers will make ya want to go to a corner and play with yourself.

also...on a truck with maybe 100,000 miles...even though the rotor may slide off...usually the park brake shoes are oily from a leaking axle seal.So I'd plan on removing the axles ahead of time.

As for trhe nut...no torque spec...just get the slop out of the bearings and snug it..remember,it should be firm,but also the bearings ,must be allowed to rotate.

Don't forget to fill the rear end with GL-5
