Default 2004 GMC Sierra Transmission Issues

I have a 2004 GMC Sierra with less than 21,000 miles and am having transmission problems. It started out by when I was driving 60 mph I heard a deep roaring sound. When I let off the gas pedal the roaring went away but when you pushed on the pedal it came back. When I slowed down to stop at a stop light I could hear a rattling noise. When I stopped you could hear something pulsating (solenoid ??). When I took off from the light it started rattling again and shifted hard at 35 mph (never done this before). I pulled over to try and find the rattling noise but found nothing. When I took off again I put the transmission in 3 instead of D and it felt like I was trying to drive with the brake on. Felt like a lot of resistance. The fluid was at the proper level and did not smell or look burnt. This truck gets light use and never abused. The dealer has always done the service on it. Has anybody else had transmission problems with these lower mileage trucks? Any suggestions on what might be wrong? I am just trying to brace myself before it goes to the shop.

Thanks

Sounds like it should go to the dealer and get a good "go thru". Does it still have a powertrain warrenty? Im thinkin the tranny has an electrical problem or the band is stuck in the engaged position.....just an idea.

When I got my 2001, I descreened my MAF sensor and had these exact symptoms you are describing 1 day later. Soon after my tranny burned up. When it didn't go anywhere in all the gears, I could hear some pressure noises under the truck. So IMO, have a tech at a dealer check it out. Maybe even a reputable transmission shop, not a run down cheap shop where they will tell you no matter what, "It Needs a Rebuild."

Thank you folks for the information. The truck is in the shop today. I will let you know the outcome.

Man I hope its good news like a cheap fix. If not then at least you will have a healthy tranny for many years to come. Adding a good size cooler will help reduce alot of the heat these transmissions produce. I have 2 on mine and the fluid stays only luke warm at idle.
