2005 Steering Issues- Need Some Advice
 

I just picked up a 2005 Sierra Z71 crew cab a few days ago and have been having some issues with the steering and could use some advice.

When I first test drove the vehichle, the power steering made a loud whining noise, especially when taking off. I also noted the steering drifted/floated when going straight. So the dealer (used car lot) installed what looks to be a used/reman power steering pump. The whining "almost" completely disappeared, but it still has that floating affect, and now when turning sharp at slow sppeds it feels like it's losing the power steering.

So my question is, do you think it's the power steering pump, power steering assist, the gearbox or something else? I know there was a recall that had to do with the power steering assist, but not sure if this truck had it fixed. It just went out of warranty, so I'm willing to listen to all advice on where to begin. One more thing, the gearbox looks to have been leaking at one time or another.

Im not sure what the problem is but if you want to check and see is the recall work was done all you have to do is call a GM dealer and give them the vin #. I did and the made me an appointment and fixed 3 things for me.
