2006 silverado - something strange going on ??

2006 silverado 4x4 crewcab w/ 6.0Max motor, 152000miles. Was out deer hunting yesterday. Driving in a pasture and no 4x4 required. Was leaving and when i applied the brakes the rear brakes completely locked up. The third time i applied the brakes they locked up and then there was a loud pop(like something broke). Continued home carefully (20 mi) with normal braking. No issues. In the pasture i was driving thru tall grasses with the occasional little brush / sapplings. So i was thinking maybe snagged something, Emergency brake cable ?? This truck does have rear drum brake. So when i get home i stopped and tried to shift into park. The lever was hard to move and would not go into park. I can shift into R,N,D,D1,D2 without issues but still hard to do it. My drive is sloping enough that it will roll in Neutral. Parking brake is working. Currently sitting there in neutral with PB applied. I cant see where the braking issue and the shifting issue are related ! This is my first mechanical issue ive had with this truck other then replacing front rotors and calipers. Been an awesome truck. Have crawled under the truck and inspected from front to rear with no visible issues. Anyone have some thoughts on this ?? Appreciate any and all help regarding this.
Thanks
Vic

Wow. It would be difficult for me to think that these were unrelated as the timing was so close. Was there any noise while you drove it home? I have found small tree limbs stuck up underneath after driving through the fields that caused me issues. Maybe something like that caused an issue but fell out on your drive home? Something very strange going on for sure!

THIS EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME! When I first bought my '06, had to drive into the woods a bit to load a deer I shot. Turns out some brush/branches had f'ed up where the shifter attaches to the linkage on the side of the transmission and snapped some plastic thingy. New plastic thingy solved the problem. It's been 13 years, so I can't give more detail. Get under your tranny and look for broken plastic thingy's.
